Apple Enables Google Cloud Consent Popup for Apple Intelligence Queries

Apple has introduced a new consent prompt that notifies users before certain Apple Intelligence requests are processed through Google Cloud. The addition of Apple Consent Popup follows the company’s expansion of Private Cloud Compute (PCC) to Google Cloud. This is also the first time Apple’s privacy-focused cloud AI platform has operated outside Apple-owned infrastructure.

The collaboration was announced at WWDC 2026, where Apple launched the next generation of Apple Intelligence and shed light on its expanded cloud infrastructure.

The new consent prompt appears as a popup when an Apple Intelligence request queries cloud processing on Google’s infrastructure. The popup clearly informs users that the request will be sent securely to Google Cloud and asks for their permission before continuing. As suggested by Apple, users can either approve the request or keep processing limited to on-device capabilities.

The Feature is set to reinforce transparency as it expands the computing resources behind Apple Intelligence.

Apple Consent Popup Informs When Data Leaves the Apple Device

The newly added consent prompt pops up only when a request cannot be completed entirely on the Apple device. Users are informed that their prompt will be processed using Apple’s secure Private Cloud Compute running on Google Cloud infrastructure.

Apple stresses that the prompt is shown before any eligible request is transferred, allowing users to decide to continue or cancel. The company ensures that Apple Intelligence does not use these requests to build advertising profiles or train foundation models. Cloud requests remain encrypted and are processed only to complete the user’s request. Additionally, the requests are not stored after processing unless for security or abuse prevention.

Apple Extended Private Cloud Compute to Google Cloud

The consent prompt popup is an outcome of the biggest architectural change announced at WWDC 2026 and Apple’s decision to extend Private Cloud Compute to Google Cloud. Apple Intelligence cloud requests were designed to run on Apple’s own infrastructure powered by Apple silicon until now. Apple has expanded PCC to operate on Google Cloud infrastructure, considering the increasing demand for more advanced AI capabilities among Apple users.

Notably, the shift is announced prioritizing Apple’s security model and software controls. The company asserted it continues to control the software stack running inside Private Cloud Compute. It also maintains a cryptographically verifiable transparency ledger for approved Google Cloud hardware used by PCC. These measures ensure that expanding to Google Cloud does not weaken the privacy guarantees originally introduced with Private Cloud Compute.

The addition of Google Cloud prompted Apple to increase transparency by introducing the new consent dialog. The update signals a new phase for Apple Intelligence following WWDC 2026. Rather than hiding the infrastructure changes, Apple is choosing to inform users whenever cloud processing involves Google Cloud.
