DuckDuckGo Introduces a Filter that Lets You Hide AI-Generated Images from Searches

DuckDuckGo, one of the privacy-focused browsers, is now here with a brand-new filter that lets users hide AI images from search results.

This represents a significant initiative by the DuckDuckGo browser to address the growing concern of synthetic results that are affecting authentic results. The company has announced the feature as part of the increasing frustration over the amount of low-quality “AI Slop” flooding the internet with content generated using the rapidly evolving AI technology.

How to Access the Filter?

Here’s how you can access the same: It’s as simple as you go with a standard search on DuckDuckGo.

  • Click on the image tab and select the new “AI Images” drop-down.
  • Users can choose to “show” or “hide” AI-generated images from their search results.

Once you switch on the filter, it will automatically remove AI-generated images and allow the user to focus on “real” images while browsing.

To deliver a great browsing experience and see authentic images in searches, DuckDuckGo also lets users enable the “Hide AI-Generated Images” feature in search settings or type “noai.duckduckgo.com” to set the filter as the default.

A Word from DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo posted on X saying, “The filter makes use of manually selected open source blocklists, such as uBlacklists, Huge AI Blocklist, and uBlockOrigin.” Even though it won’t detect the entire AI-generated images, it can certainly reduce the number of images generated by AI. This is precise enough!

Focusing on authentic images while browsing has become easy with this new filter! The launch is all aimed at addressing the concern of users who want to control whether they want to see AI-generated images or not.

The following are some of the scenarios where the need for a new filter matter:

  • Every user has a different preference; some opt for AI-generated images, while others prefer to filter them out and look for original photos.
  • As the AI buzz is all around and here to stay, with this kind of filter, human content will regain more value and trust among users.

DuckDuckGo, as stated initially, is privacy-focused and consistently works on making its AI features private, helpful, and optional. Check out the image below for reference.

With these updates, DuckDuckGo remains committed to its original goal of providing users with a cleaner, more private browsing experience, allowing them to navigate the crowded web without being bombarded with ads for questionable or fake content.

It’s all in your hands, whether you want to go full AI or reduce its impact on your daily life!
