The everyday writing and collaborative platform Google Docs is now here with an AI-powered audio feature. This way, you can create audio versions of your documents using Gemini AI in Google Docs.
Google’s new feature is an excellent option for those who prefer listening to the content of documents rather than reading them. Additionally, it comes with benefits such as transforming the text into speech with customizable playback controls and a number of voice styles to meet users’ personal preferences.
How to Use Google Docs Feature?
To get started with the Audio option, all you need to do is go to the Tools menu> Audio menu and hear the content of the tab that’s currently open. Another interesting update mentioned in Google’s blog post is that authors can easily add Audio buttons to the document.

To do the same, go to the Insert>Audio buttons menu. Thus, a play button is added directly to your documents, allowing you to listen to it with just one click. The player features a playback length and can be positioned anywhere on the screen. It has controls for play/pause, scrubbing, speed, and voice selection.
In comparison to conventional robotic text-to-speech engines, Google Doc AI audio is more realistic and flexible.
Collaboration and Availability
Not only can the author listen to the audio, but the collaborator can too. An author has the option to design a listening button directly in their document through the Insert menu (Insert > Audio buttons > Listen to tab). This allows readers to click and listen without needing to scroll through lengthy text.
The feature is now accessible on Google Docs’ web version and in English. This update is rolling out to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as select Workspace plans, including Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus, and Gemini Education or Business add-ons.
With the integration into Docs, it completely transforms the workspace. This is definitely a significant move in the right direction, paving the way for more flexibility, accessibility, and engagement in content creation and collaboration.
Google’s new audio feature in Google Docs is here to enhance your content interaction, improving the accessibility of your documents. It’s now available in English and has been launched exclusively on desktop.
