Microsoftโ€™s Famous Blue Screen of Death Retires After 40 Years!

An update filled with mixed emotions for all the Windows users out there! Microsoftโ€™s โ€œBlue Screen of Deathโ€ (BSOD) is officially scrapping out! For over 40 years, the BSOD screen was a part of Windows, typically the iconic error message, that was often related to unexpected PC shutdown.

The tech giant isnโ€™t stopping here! Soon, this infamous error message will be replaced with a black background and a simplified message saying, โ€œYour device ran into a problem and needs to restart.โ€ย

This update was considering CrowdStrike, which occurred a year ago, shocking millions of devices to boot to a BSOD. Microsoft introduced the new restart experience in its recent blog post on the Windows Resiliency Initiative, with all the top guidelines for building organizational resilience.

A New Restart Experience!

The company is focused on โ€œstreamlining the unexpected restart experienceโ€ which often leads to disruptions or business continuity.ย  The change is part of continued efforts to reduce disruption in the event of an unexpected restart,โ€ the company wrote.

Users will miss the error message along with the frowning face icon. This has now been replaced with a percentage completed for the restart process.

The company states that the updated UI improves readability and goes well with Windows 11 design principles. Alongside, keep the technical information on the screen as it is when needed!โ€

The Release

Regarding the release, Microsoft confirmed that the new and simplified user interface for unexpected restarts will be all set for users later this summer on all its Windows 11 (version 24H2) devices. The tech giant has opened up a faster and easier way of restarting! Indeed, a game-changing move by Windows!ย
