WhatsApp Users Can Soon Chat Without Sharing Phone Numbers

WhatsApp, a popular messaging platform owned by Meta, continually introduces new enhancements and updates for its users worldwide. Now, to get started with WhatsApp, itโ€™s certain that phone numbers are a must-have. However, thisย scenario is now a thing of the past! WhatsApp is currently working on a stand-out privacy feature that could transform the way users interact with each other as stated in a report from WeBetaInfo.

Alongside allowing individuals to create a unique username, thereโ€™s no need to disclose personal phone numbers. This is all set to make a mark for the web and Android users, enabling phone number privacy. Moreover, this feature is still in its final development phase and is not available for beta testing.

The Terms and Conditions for Usernames

As mentioned in the report, the feature will allow users to create unique usernames by following a specific criterion as given below:

  • Usernames should not begin with www, as users would surely think of a website.
  • There should be at least one letter present in the username.
  • Only some characters are allowed, including lowercase letters (A), underscores, and numbers (0-9).
  • Usernames should not end with .com or .NET.
  • Duplicate usernames are not allowed; WhatsApp disallows repetitive usernames.

Itโ€™s necessary to meet the above guidelines to keep away from the common scams on WhatsApp Messenger.

WhatsApp in offering a secure and smooth messaging experience to users

Whatโ€™s Ahead?

The main goal of this update is to ensure security in the conversation. Your phone number is completely hidden, so you can rest assured that your personal information has been compromised or misled. Alongside, the feature is a great benefit for group chats or those who communicate with unknowns while wanting to be anonymous by hiding their phone numbers.

The launch date is still not confirmed yet, although it is expected to go live for users soon. This is a step ahead of WhatsApp in offering a secure and smooth messaging experience to users.
