Zoho’s Arattai: The Messaging App Giving WhatsApp Tough Competition

Here’s a recent news update regarding digital innovation from India, which is positioning itself as a Zoho’s Made-in-India competitor to WhatsApp, owned by Meta. The Zoho’s app Arattai, has recently been a great buzz on the Play Store.

A few netizens have called it the “WhatsApp Killer.” Alongside, users have seen downloading the new, Arattai app at the fastest pace. The new messaging app prioritizes privacy, user-first design, and localization. Unlike WhatsApp’s integration with Meta’s ad system, Arattai offers local data storage, end-to-end encryption, and a complete ad-free experience.

With all the familiar features, some of the unique features that goes above and beyond WhatsApp are:

Meetings: WhatsApp has video group calling; however, Arattai has a full-fledged “Meetings” feature that surpasses Zoom and Google Meet. Users can easily schedule calls, meetings, or join the current ones, all within the app.

Pocket: As the name suggests, users typically share personal messages in their own chat. Moreover, a standout point is that Arattai enhances this experience with a personal cloud storage feature, allowing users to save their important files, messages, and more.

Mentions: Similar to platforms like Teams or Slack, Arattai has a Mentions section wherein users can see messages with mentions—no need to scroll down to check out the notifications.

No Ads, Local Data Storage: Arattai is focused on privacy. The app doesn’t run on ads and ensures that users’ data won’t be used for ad purposes. However, one of the downsides is that although voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted, the messages are not yet encrypted, unlike WhatsApp.

Arattai also addresses India’s multifaceted socio-linguistic dynamics with an enhanced focus on local languages and offline messaging options, which allow you to draft and queue an outgoing message without internet connectivity —all of which is vital in rural India. Furthermore, for a small business, Zoho’s Arattai integrates with their suite of tools for customer communications and workflow automation, which is lacking with WhatsApp.

Here’s a Feature that WhatsApp Doesn’t Offer Yet!

Android TV Edge

A key aspect that sets Arattai apart is the dedicated Andriof TV application that lets you stay in your conversation on the big screen. Alongside, you can initiate group calls. Furthermore, the application’s native support across various devices, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and smartphones, expands its reach beyond WhatsApp.  With its native brand, top features and privacy focus, Zoho’s Arattai is challenging the popular messaging platform WhatsApp and its market share in India.
