Tim Cook Steps Back as Apple CEO, John Ternus Set to Take OverĀ

The technology giant Apple Inc. on Monday announced that John Ternus will be the next CEO,Ā succeedingĀ Tim Cook, who has led the company for 15 years.

John Ternus will be taking over the new role starting September 1, 2026, and Cook will become executive director. AsĀ statedĀ by CookĀ regardingĀ the transition,Ā ā€œIt has been the greatest privilege of my life to be the CEO of Apple and to have been trusted to lead such an extraordinary company.ā€Ā

Cook will remain involved with the company as executiveĀ chairman, while longtime board member Arthur Levinson will assume the role of independent director.

AboutĀ Cook’s Legacy and Impact

Cook’s stepping down from the role would mark the end of the extraordinary CEO in corporate history, after Steve Jobs. He took Apple’s mission and growth to a whole new level. Under his leadership, Apple’s market grew from a market capitalization ofĀ approximatelyĀ $350 billionĀ toĀ $4 trillion, with revenue more than quadrupling.

Cook has been the key contributor to Apple’s introduction of products and services, including Apple Watch, Apple Vision Pro, AirPods, alongside services such as iCloud, Apple Pay, and Apple Music. He also spearheaded the steady growth of Apple’s Services division, which now generates overĀ $1000 billionĀ annually. Furthermore, Cook has focused on sustainability, reducing Apple’s carbon footprint significantly, user privacy, and more.

How is the Road Ahead Under Ternus?

John Ternus, Apple’s incoming CEO, has over 25 years of experience as a true visionary and innovator, working with Apple since 2001 and becoming VP of hardware engineering in 2013. He has been instrumental in developing major product lines across the iPhone, Mac, iPad, and AirPods.

Ternus is indeed a true pioneer, having led advancements in materials, repairability, and product design. AsĀ statedĀ by Cook,Ā ā€œHe is visionary whose contributions to Apple over 25 years are already too numerous to count, and he is without question the right person to lead Apple into the future.ā€Ā

Apple’s leadership transition strategy aimed towards a bigger goal and aimed atĀ maintainingĀ continuity while making the company stand at the forefront of innovation. With Cook as executiveĀ chairmanĀ and Ternus stepping into the role as CEO, Apple is here to build on its legacy while moving towards the best! I
