OpenAI’s ChatGPT experienced a global outage on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, raising concerns among users from different regions. Enhanced cases were reported across the USA, the UK, and India. Disruptions occurred post-12 noon and surged at around 3 PM when users encountered challenges accessing and using the tool. As a result, elevated error rates were observed across the globe.
The majority of the cases reported highlighted the functional difficulties faced by users. The outage has affected diverse audiences, including developers, content creators, designers, students, and other professionals. People have expressed their frustration caused by the disruption on social media platforms, especially X (Formerly Twitter).
As per Downdetector, the outage reports hiked after 11 in the morning, and around 5 PM, over 1300 cases were reported in the USA. It also reveals that in the USA, 92% of users reported problems faced using ChatGPT. 7% of users encountered difficulties in using the application, and 1% reported outages they faced while logging in.
What Has OpenAI Stated?
OpenAI addressed the ChatGPT outage and stated, “Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are continuing to investigate this issue.”
After almost five hours of investigation and assessm ent, OpenAI shared, “We have identified the root cause for the issue causing elevated errors and latency across the listed services. We are working on implementing a mitigation.”
Impact of ChatGPT Outage—
According to the assessment of OpenAI, the ChatGPT outage has affected 14 components in APIs, including Chat, Compliance, Embeddings, Batch, and others. There are 21 affected components in the tool, including the Web, iOS, Android, WhatsApp, etc. Additionally, in Sora, there are four affected aspects, which involve video and image generation, video viewing, and feed.
ChatGPT has around 122 million daily users and 400 million weekly. It involves people from diverse age groups and industries who regularly use this AI tool for personal and professional purposes.
