Just Launched: Google’s New AI Dictation App for iPhones is Here That Works Offline

Google has quietly released a new iOS app called Google AI Edge Eloquent, an AI dictation tool built for offline use. The app is free and appears on the App Store as an iPhone-only productivity app.

Google AI Edge Eloquent uses Google’s Gemma-based on-device models and is designed to turn spoken words into cleaned-up text without requiring a server connection. Google made the tool available for iPhones on April 6, 2026.

What does Google AI Edge Eloquent do?

Google AI Edge Eloquent shows live transcription as users speak. When they stop recording, the text is automatically polished. The tool removes filler words such as ‘um’ and ‘uh’ and can also reshape the output into formats like key points, formal, short, or long. Experts suggest that the app is built to make rough speech usable as ready-to-paste text.

As per Google, the app can work fully offline once the speech models are downloaded. It means dictation can stay on the device, which may appeal to users who want faster processing and less dependence on the cloud.

Features You Can’t Ignore:

Google AI Edge Eloquent offers several advanced features that make dictation easier than ever. The app includes transcription history, search, word counts, and speech speed stats. It also lets users build a custom dictionary for names and jargon. According to the listing, Google can import some terms from Gmail if users sign in. The tool reportedly will get a keyboard feature soon. Android support is a possibility for the future, but the app is not in the Play Store yet. Here are the major features:

  • It enables voice dictation without subscriptions.
  • Easily polish your speech and pick your tone in the app.
  • The app can learn users’ unique vocabulary.
  • The tool automatically saves your offline conversations.

Why Google Launched Google AI Edge Eloquent?

The release puts Google into a growing field of AI dictation apps, including Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper, and Willow. The move also shows how more AI tools are shifting toward on-device processing. This approach can improve speed and privacy, while keeping text cleanup available without constant internet access. Google has not yet given a full public launch plan for the app, and its Android future remains unclear.
